North of Elberton, Georgia (the self proclaimed Granite Capitol of the United States) upon a hill by the road is one of the more unusual sites to be found in this part of the state. There you find the Georgia Guidestones.

These large granite tablets, each standing over 16 feet and weighing 21 tons each point outwards from the center to the Northeast, Northwest, Southeast and Southwest. Each side of the tablets presents ten "guiding rules" for proper living on Earth, in 8 different languages: English, Russian, Chinese, Arabic, Hebrew, Hindi, Swahili and Sanskirt.

The monument was mysteriously commissioned by an anonymous party, and erected in 1980. The four tablets are topped by a capstone stating "Let These Be Guidestones To An Age of Reason" in four additional ancient languages: Cuniform, Classical Greek, Sanskrit and Hieroglyphics.

The placement of the stones, and holes and slits in the rock are aligned with the sun and moon, shining (when the sun shows) through at various times of the day and year.  Another reason why the stones are sometimes referred to as "America's Stonehenge."

The horizontal slot is aligned for the sun at the vernal and autumnal equinoxes. It was cloudy that day so NOT didn't see the sun much at all.

The 10 guiding rules (often called new commandments) engraved are:

  1. Maintain humanity under five hundred million in perpetual balance with nature.

  2. Guide reproduction wisely, improving fitness and diversity.

  3. Unite humanity with a living new language.

  4. Rule passion, faith, tradition, and all things with tempered reason.

  5. Protect people and nations with fair laws and just courts.

  6. Let all nations rule internally, resolving external disputes in a world court.

  7. Avoid petty laws an useless officials.

  8. Balance personal rights with social duties.

  9. Prize truth - beauty - love - seeking harmony with the infinite.

  10. Be not a cancer on earth Leave room for nature. - Leave room for nature.

Why these are here, no one is sure. The "information stone" laid in the ground indicate it was sponsored by "A small group of Americans who seek the age of reason."  Some find it an oddity. Some find it to be common sense rules for living. And some find it to be a very sinister monument relating to the New World Order, and the takeover of the world by sinister cabals. Maybe we will not know what they mean.

You can explore the gamut of analyses by simply Googling "georgia guidestones."
