The Quack on Fort Sumter

Thomaston, Georgia

With J.J. Kwashnak

April 2007

Georgia is filled with Civil War history. Some good. Some bad.

Some questionable.

But still NOT had to pause here at the seat of Upson County. For on the courthouse lawn is a monument topped by a large black ball.

Strange but not unknown.

Except this claims that the ball on top is the actual cannonball that was the first fired upon Fort Sumter in South Carolina, starting off the Americna Civil War.

True or not, is left as an exercise for the reader. But just in case, NOT stopped by to be closer to a piece of history.
