It's Not the Size of the House, but the Power

Humphrey Bogart's Rick Blain came to Casablanca for the waters. And Franklin Delano Roosevelt came to Warm Springs, Georgia for the waters also. In FDR's case, it was a treatment for his polio.

For many years, since he was governor of New York, he came regularly to the hot springs, staying in the same house in Warm Springs. The small house became known as the "Little White House."

Here in 1945, while his portrait was being painted, FDR suffered a fatal stroke. Having guided the country through World War II, he died just shy of seeing the war's end.

His body was placed upon a special train on his final trip north to Washington, and eventually burial at the family home in Hyde Park, New York.

Thousands lined the tracks and cried as his body passed on this final trip.
