I've Quacked it Before and I'll Quack it Again - It's Gorge-ous!

Around the Grand Canyon

With Doug Larrick and Lis Daniels

May 2000

If there is one thing that NOT does seem to have an appreciation for, it's the beauty of nature. So while he's been to the Grand Canyon in Arizona before, he never tires of these kinds of trips. So when duck and nature lovers Doug and Lis were headed there, well, how could a duck resist? He couldn't.

It was just as he remembered, full of sweeping vistas, breathtaking views,

And fear of falling off the edge.

All in all, NOT remembered why, while he loves nature, he was overwhelmed by the Canyon. Being a duck of very small stature, he just felt lost in it.

At one point, they talked about riding down to the bottom of the canyon. NOT is not particularly happy with donkeys, but when he saw a turtle, he happily jumped on it to get his own proportioned ride to the bottom.

Unfortunately, he didn't bother to look closely at the sign next to it, which explained:

"Is this a turtle shell?

NO! It is a rock called a turtle stone

A turtle stone is a sedimentary rock divided into irregular sections by cracks. This makes it look like a turtle's shell."

So NOT's ride wasn't going anywhere.

Leaving the sweeping gorges, they trio took off to nearby Sedona.

"Good," thought NOT, "At least I'm now going to feel less uncomfortable."

Alas, how was NOT to know that this would be a side trip he wouldn't be able to sit down from in a while. For what Sedona had to offer him was a collection of cacti. All kinds of cacti. And NOT got to check them all out.

Saguaro Cactus

The Prickly Pear

Ball Cactus

OUCH! Was all that NOT could get out as he got out of town fast to find some band-aids.
